Primarily found in the Pacific lowlands, these energetic little creatures dart through the treetops with acrobatic ease, leaping from branch to branch with the agility of a jungle acrobat. Typically traveling in groups of up to 50 or more, we encountered a smaller troop of 8 today, engrossed in their activities and oblivious to our presence. Their speed made it challenging to capture a clear shot! Squirrel monkeys' curious and playful nature is endearing, as they explore their surroundings, foraging for fruits, insects, or even small lizards. Despite their fun-loving personalities, these monkeys play a vital role in the ecosystem, acting as tiny gardeners by dispersing seeds throughout the forest.
