The Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo), native to North America, is the largest of the Galliformes. One of two turkey species, it's distinguished by its small, featherless, reddish head that can turn blue, red throat in males, long reddish-orange to greyish-blue legs, and dark-brown to black body. Males have red wattles on the throat and neck, and both have four-toed feet with males sporting rear spurs on their lower legs. The head features fleshy growths called caruncles, with a fleshy bill flap that expands and engorges with blood when excited.
